3 Fridays

Episode 41

September 19th was the date our last episode, Follow The Call, where we described the call to "take care of the widows" and move to the Carolinas. We also talked about the dying process as Rick's mom was under home Hospice care and had just been moved to a facility to manage her meds and to give us caregivers a break for a few days.

Little did we know at the time that she wouldn't come home again, but she passed 10 days later.

Two hours after that episode published.

September 19th was the first of 3 consecutive, meaningful Fridays. The second, September 26th, would have been her 92nd birthday and we celebrated  with neighbors on her front porch and raised a toast to her life and legacy left behind.

Friday number 3 came a week later, October 3rd, which saw us taking a trip to Arizona to see Meghan, Drew and the kids. A trip which was planned but we weren't sure if we would both make it under the circumstances.

In this episode we talk about those Fridays and the peace we've discovered before, during and after her death.

Binky On Tap

with Binky Philips

Episode 35

Binky is an icon in music, record promotion and someone who almost became a bonafide rock star. He may not have sold millions of albums, but he has great stories to tell about his start in music, the business and some pretty close ties with KISS and Pete Townshend - grab a drink and listen!

This is the text Cheri references in this episode:

Jen ❤️

I have to tell you this.

As I got to the end of my work day today, I came back to a writing that had been swirling around in my brain. I chose to write it to its completion. This in itself is a big deal because sometimes I over spiritualize things and don’t do a work to be done unless I feel that sweet spot of prompting. But I chose to do it without the feeling first. Half way through I got my groove and finished. I then read it to Rick. A bit clumsy as a first read through but it still solidified it for me. Just moments later our doorbell rang.

Talon made his way down the hall to open his hand for a pouring of salt.

And then I took a shower and realized in retrospect how profoundly sweet that was to my soul when I remembered your text once calling us the salt of the earth.

Talon may as well have been Jesus himself seeing me and Rick and our efforts reminding us we. You, me, Rick and Talon. We are the salt of the earth and He is so, so profoundly proud of us.

Your lack was our good blessing and I will always look at salt a little differently. ❤️

A Curated Life

(Look At This Photograph)

Episode 30

As the Peoria house gets ready to be sold (again!), boxes of photos and mementos have made it to Greenville.  We have been sorting, keeping and tossing lots of pictures, but best of all we've been reminded of so many great memories.  Take a listen and be sure to not let your old pictures stay lost in a box or album that never gets opened!

Road Trippin'

Episode 28

Who doesn't love a good road trip?

We sure do and there are music and podcasts are a big part!

We started putting together a growing playlist of songs that just sound great, feel good and pass the miles with a smile on your face - feel free to add to it on Spotify or email us some songs to add for you!

Confession

This actually went along with an episode we decided not to publish, but still felt this message from NewSpring Church called "Who Is This Man?" was so powerful.

We'd love for you to watch it!

Joe On Tap

Episode 27

Joe Calgaro is simply one of the good guys in radio. A star programmer and on-air talent who happened to get his start with all of us in Peoria!

It's a fun listen and Joe sent along a few pics that are referenced in this episode.

Do you know what your funeral song is?

Binge

Episode 26

As we talked about TV worth binging, we mentioned childhood favorites like the Flintstones and how they once promoted smoking. It's bizarre to see that now through a current day lens.

Housing

Episode 23

While talking about housing, styles and prices in this episode, we wanted to give you a glimpse of a few of our favorites that are right close by.  Prices are definitely nuts and there are more affordable neighborhoods - but these are more fun.

Work-Rest Balance

Episode 10

Here is the prayer referenced in this episode.

Abba Father, all the you have made is very good.

I surrender to your plans for me, all of which are good.

I repent of any striving, workaholic tendency, which simply proves that I do not trust you fully. I surrender, and I trust you.

I repent of any laziness, any apathy, any selfish passiveness, which simply proves that I do not trust you fully. I surrender, and I trust you.

Teach me to work in rhythm. Teach me to rest in rhythm.

Teach me to wait upon you, and as I wait upon you, grant me grace to fly, to run without weariness, to walk without fainting, joyfully enjoying friendship with you, reflecting your glory and goodness, in the art of work and rest.

In Jesus name, amen.
