Hello
In January 2024 we made one of the biggest decisions of our lives.
We sold things, packed things and made the move from Peoria, Illinois to Greenville, South Carolina.
Our podcast began as a documentation of the decision and the actual move for family and friends. Why would we leave careers, parts of our family and familiarity to do this?
Along the way we've talked about much more - faith, communication, exploration and well, just listen!

Our Story
It all started when we met in 1989.

Cheri worked at a bank and I was programming and on-air at the rock station in Peoria, Illinois.
After verifying that there was no "Mrs" (and no money) she said "yes" to a first date. That date consisted of a screening of "Tango & Cash" in the theatre followed by a stop at the off-track betting parlor next door. I thought that betting on some funny-named horses would be fun.

The waitress came by and took our drink order. Bud Light for me (I've evolved in my beer taste) and a Coke for her. I asked if she was sure about that and she was adamant that all she wanted was a Coke. I wondered about this as we really got to know each other in a long since departed bar called Thumpers.

I suddenly got a little sweaty and tried to be casual as I asked "Uh, how old are you?"

A sense of relief washed over me when she said "19". Not just for her actual age but that the bouncers had been - let's say, lenient at that time!

We went on to have 4 kids, with me having a radio career for almost 40 years and she raising our kids while taking on any and every side hustle under the sun.

And we did it - much to our own surprise and with the goodness of God, we raised 4 incredible people, and if they didn't belong to us we would still want to share a drink with them in any coffee shop (or bar). They have gone on to bring about a family of 15 with son in-laws and grandkids and even more with the cream of the crop extended in-laws!

When we found ourselves in the not easy but possible position of fulfilling a weird, deep desire to live in the Carolinas, we began to starve our fears and feed our faith by saying "Yes" and making "The List" (see episode 1)

Turned out making "The List" led right into checking boxes which included exploring new healthcare options, resigning from careers and jobs that provided a stable income and breaking the news to our friends and family that this time, it was for real - we're doing it.
Not easy. That was the hardest box to check.
Then we sold what we could, packed what we wanted and having the incredible blessing of our oldest daughter and her husband to buy her childhood home, our home, to raise her own family.
That was the box we never saw being checked and led to us documenting this whole process using our unique skillsets. Leaning on my career in radio along with her deep thinking and writing skills we debuted the first episode of Tapestry in May of 2024.

The biggest gift to come as a result, is the relatability to others and to know that we're not alone.

P.S. If you know me, you also know she helped me write this! ;)
